How to set up an outdoors Tagtool session

Projection Considerations for Outdoors

Projection

  • Choose buildings with a light surface (white or grey) - the projection will show up much better. Avoid dark buildings or reflective surfaces, like glass.
  • Try to find spots with little ambient light (no direct street light etc.)
  • Small is beautiful - if you don't have a very powerful projector, choose smaller targets. The color will show up much better and it's more fun when you have a clear image. (Also see Projector Guide)
  • Try to avoid to have the edges of the projection visible - either make the projection span the whole building or align the edges with features of the building. This way the artist doesn't have to guess where the drawing area stops and won't find himself out of space all of a sudden.

Power

Generator

Use a generator that has enough power for both Tagtool and projector. For example, if you have a projector that uses 300 Watts and your Tagtool computer uses 300 too, a 1000 Watt generator will be good enough. Just make sure you turn everything off before you run out of gasoline, to avoid damaging the projector's bulb.

Batteries

You can also use a car battery to power your projector, used together with a DC to AC power inverter. In our test we could get around 30-45 minutes of projection time (3000 Lumens) out of a standard car battery with a 600W inverter. Again make sure you turn everything off before you run out of power, to avoid damaging the projector's bulb.
