Rotterdam: moddr_ & WORM

Posted on December 2nd, 2009 | By gnu | Category: Photos, Workshops

Recently we were invited to moddr_, a media lab as part of WORM Rotterdam. WORM is a venue that organizes concerts, film screenings, workshops, master classes, festivals, exchanges and other events. Besides all this, it has a film workshop, a sound studio, a shop and an ultra fast digital platform.

The name ‘moddr_’ resembles the dutch word ‘modder‘, meaning mud. This name has been chosen to show that a large part of the practice of moddr_ involves the modification and re-creation of already existing technology. moddr_ describes its activities like this:

We wanted to create a place that is more accessible to young artists and hackers, without the need for overblown project descriptions and ridiculous budget applications. We tend to dislike the idea of contemporary media being labeled ‘new’, and it is part of our mission to display a critical perspective on issues related to this through our artistic practice – basically the lab consists of some very geeky fine-artists…

So the DIY-Tagtool workshop at moddr has been just a question of time …
