Las Palmas de Gran Canaria
Posted on April 12th, 2010 | By maki | Category: Photos, Public Spaces, WorkshopsWe recently visited the Spanish island Gran Canaria, located in the Atlantic Ocean about 150 kilometers off the northwestern coast of Africa, for two days of Tagtool workshops and a performance.
The workshops took place in the Edificio Miller, a generous space located next to San Telmós Park. We divided them into three parts – a presentation to introduce the Tagtool project, a hands-on session on three drawing stations to learn the basics, and an “application” part where we got a little more creative, like painting cars and the outside of the building.
The performance by iink, Tohyto and me happened at the Auditorio Alfredo Kraus, a pretty interesting building by the seaside. We were up against the Barcelona vs. Madrid game, which was on while we were painting. But in the end, a pretty large crowd gathered and it was very enjoyable to play with the features of the architecture. Our session was followed by an hour of free-for-all drawing, where we saw quite a few people from the workshops again.
Las Palmas is a beautiful and inspiring place to do projections. We saw some pretty impressive painting skills at the workshops, and we have reasons to hope that people will continue to work with the Tagtool in Gran Canaria. A big “thank you” to everybody involved.
