Posted on July 1st, 2010 | By iink | Category: Events
Organized as part of AceArtInc’s 16 Days of Unorganized Art, the Gr8 Bits Show brings together 10 artists from Winnipeg, Toronto, London (Ont), and Montreal to share with you their unique artwork based on the culture and technology of video games.
Curatorial Statement:
I grew up with video games and gaming culture, and over time I have seen both the consumer modes of game interaction and the creative modes of interaction with gaming culture grow as well. The Gr8 bits show showcases both gaming culture and challenges to the traditional notions of play associated with it. All the artists have come together to create works based on gaming culture itself, or using the technology of gaming culture in new and innovative ways.
It is a celebration of the creative culture that has grown at the edges of gamer culture, one that is now a recognized artform globally. This show is a showcase of some of the artists I have met who work with the aesthetic and the technology of gaming culture: a wonderfully talented group of artists who both embrace this culture and criticize it.
the Gr8 Bit show features artwork:
Rylaan Gimby (WPG) – demonstrating his custom tag tool drawing/ video game controller graphic application.
Andrew Milne (WPG)- mixing vintage game console signals to create live visuals.
