Behind the name “Kopffarben” are the artists Julia Schaefer and Johannes Schmidt. Both artists work together to be able to merge their knowledge in the fields of painting, sculpture, theater, photography and graphics (Julia Schaefer), and computer animation, programming and film (Johannes Schmidt).

Dr. Alderete is a pop illustrator who uses trash culture, 50′s science fiction films, wrestling and surf music imagery in his psychotronic illustrations, animations and comics. He graduated from the School of Fine Arts at Universidad Nacional de La Plata, Argentina. He has worked as an independent animator for MTV, Nickelodeon, Fox Channel and Once TV.

His work has been published in several specialized anthologies: Illustration Now!, Ilustration Now Portraits and Latin American Graphic Design (Taschen); Illusive, Pictoplasma, Los Logos series, Latino, Play Loud, (Die Gestalten Verlag).

Last year he started using the Tagtool; since then he has become one of the most active performers on his continent. One of his projects is called “Gallo Negro” (Black Rooster) – It´s a music band that takes the psychedelic sound of Peruvian cumbia of the 70′s, fusing it with an attitude of garage. Farfisa organs, fuzz guitars, guiro and inseparable are the main ingredients of this lysergic cumbia group accompanied by Dr. Alderete´s live performance on the Tagtool.

The band has been touring latin america and has played in locations like Museum of Modern Art in Mexico City.

Recently he delivered a speech at the TMDG convention – it`s the most important graphic design event in Latin America, held annually since 2002. Jorge was drawing live in front of a huge audience, but see for yourself – now the spot is on – Dr. Alderete and his flying skulls.

Tagtool MX is a project developed by Mauricio Gomez Tagtool “Maw” (@ magopo) and designed by Jim Catan (@ Chemical_burn) of Cholula hackerspaces.

It is a local proposal inserted into a global movement (hackerspaces.org) that seeks to generate alternatives to consumer culture, betting on a way to acquire knowledge, goods and services based on reciprocity, transitivity and solidarity with an open, integrated, which gives a synergy of different people doing different things.

Hackerspaces are community-operated physical places, where people can meet and work on their projects.

James “Jim” Catan: Inventor, photographer and addicted to Lego

A graduate of Chemical Engineering Processes with immense degree thesis: “Development of simulation software and atmospheric dispersion of pollutants in the subsurface three-dimensional surface generation of concentration.” Diploma in Photography Black and White in 2000 by Eastman Kodak. It takes 11 years documenting events and 24 playing with Lego robots.

Mauricio “Maw” Gomez Hackergeek, ping pongnero and lover of the tools.

Best known among friends as the Lord of the Arduino. Electronics and Computer Engineer since 2010 as a thesis by a telemetry system, using SMS, for vending machines. The term “pure inventions yours” is not foreign to him. Blog is the editor of Make: Spanish (es.makezine.com) since 2009. He has also sent us a picture of his first Tagtool Mini built into a treasure box. It definitely got some gambiologically brazilian roots.

Plumm from Czech Republic has been inspired by Eddie Van Halen and his Frankenstrat which is the name of his most famous guitar with black and white stripes.

Then we set off with the Red Bull Volvo to do some projector bombing on the street – and this was really great fun!

The photos below were taken from our first stop – outside Kino OkO.

The gable end of this block of flats made a brilliant ‘canvas’ for drawing and the on-board sound system in the Red Bull car soon attracted a big crowd.

Our next stop was in Dlouha outside Roxy/Nod, a very popular club and gallery in the centre of Prague.

Despite the narrowness of the street and bright lighting Kuba managed to angle the projector to make a huge drawing area for me on the front of the building next to the club. A big crowd soon gathered on the street, with lots of people taking photos. My new, beautiful Tagtoool All-in-one performed perfectly and was ideal for working on the street! Dima set it up and dismantled it very quickly – and in between managed to take these photos as well.

I spent this past weekend at Ateliér Libušín, located in the small village of Libušín, Czech for this years edition of the TagTool sessions.
Ateliér Libušín is also the home of Francis and Dima, whom I first became aware of from the Wall Of Light video.

On hand for the sessions was the entire OMA international family along with a hand full of musicians. There was lots of cooking and chatting and drinking, and more importantly TagTool.

For the first night Francis suggested we set up in the back yard because it was so nice out and the following evening there was a prediction of rain. On hand were three large plastic panels that were propped up, projectors turned on and off we went with two TagTool stations, one of them plugged in via a Dima invention using VVVV keyed into the other for some dual TagTooling.

The following evening we all went into the studio and a secret project involving an iPad was introduced into the mix. In the images above and below, left side is TagTool and right side is the ______ running on the iPad.

Not shown here at all are the experiments where the ______ on the iPad sent its drawings to the MadMapper using Syphon.

When the geekery concluded we settled into a multi-tagtool session…

Colors coming out of the nose of the mind.

PLEASE NOTE: The event was supported by funds of a cultural promotion called “Wir sind Nachbarn” (we are neighbors) by “NÖ Landesakademie” (an institute of Lower Austria).

As it was a real jam session I decided to make a sequence of both abstract and figurative images for this setting. Here are photos of the two musicians who provided the live accompaniment for my drawing.

It was the sound system in the Red Bull car that was used for music to accompany the street projections.

In order to cover the whole height of the building Kuba held the projector on its side – a great idea that worked really well – but drawing was much more difficult, as either I had to stand sideways or try remember that when I moved the pen up on the tablet, the line went down on the building and movement left showed up as movement right!

Unfortunately, on Thursday evening it was seriously wet – not the best weather for projector bombing!

I was the lucky one, cowering inside the van (although this proved to be not the most comfortable position for drawing!)

But despite the bad weather this was a great projection location.

As well as ‘drawing’ on the wall I was able to incorporate the statue in the niche into the pictures.

When we moved to the next location we parked the van next to the Red Bull car in the car park end-on to the wall. With the back door of the van raised to form a ‘roof’, a raincoat draped over the back of the Tagtool to give extra protection from the rain and the projector inside the van sitting on the tailgate, this was a much more comfortable drawing position for me.

The audience was not so lucky!

My projection area fell within one of the ‘loops’ of the permanent mural that covers this big wall and as there was a lot of ambient light at this location I chose not to use the transparency slider but instead concentrate on making big bold images in pure colours.

I ended the session with a bit of advertising for the remaining events of the festival!

It had been great fun, although we all went home very wet – and glad that our performance on Saturday at the Meetfactory would be indoors!
