Bauchklang – the “vocal groove project” formed 1996 around the frontman and leadsinger Andreas Fraenzel out of a musical-production “Jesus Christ Superstar” which he and Alex Boeck participated in. They create their sound (Hip Hop, Reggae, Trance, Folk, Ethno, Drum’n'Bass, Africanism and Ambient) without the help of any instruments – just with the power of their voices.

Dieter Puntigam joined their performance at the Festspielhaus St.Pölten 2011 alongside of Marie Daulne. She is the founder and lead singer of the music group Zap Mama whose second album, Adventures in Afropea 1, “became 1993′s best-selling world music album and established Zap Mama as an international concert sensation.

Dr. Alderete is a pop illustrator who uses trash culture, 50′s science fiction films, wrestling and surf music imagery in his psychotronic illustrations, animations and comics. He graduated from the School of Fine Arts at Universidad Nacional de La Plata, Argentina. He has worked as an independent animator for MTV, Nickelodeon, Fox Channel and Once TV.

His work has been published in several specialized anthologies: Illustration Now!, Ilustration Now Portraits and Latin American Graphic Design (Taschen); Illusive, Pictoplasma, Los Logos series, Latino, Play Loud, (Die Gestalten Verlag).

Last year he started using the Tagtool; since then he has become one of the most active performers on his continent. One of his projects is called “Gallo Negro” (Black Rooster) – It´s a music band that takes the psychedelic sound of Peruvian cumbia of the 70′s, fusing it with an attitude of garage. Farfisa organs, fuzz guitars, guiro and inseparable are the main ingredients of this lysergic cumbia group accompanied by Dr. Alderete´s live performance on the Tagtool.

The band has been touring latin america and has played in locations like Museum of Modern Art in Mexico City.

Recently he delivered a speech at the TMDG convention – it`s the most important graphic design event in Latin America, held annually since 2002. Jorge was drawing live in front of a huge audience, but see for yourself – now the spot is on – Dr. Alderete and his flying skulls.

//the 3rd AVLAB córdoba meeting in 2011, which took place in centro cultural españa, was dedicated to the children: a space occupied with installations that proposed interaction and new media as platforms for creativity. oriented by the artists, the kids were able to play and experiment with different sorts of digital and electronic dispositives. this set contains a few images of a prototype proposed to this meeting, based on the opensource project tagtool (tagtool.org). more info at medul.la/​blog. thanks to lina lopes for the video (senhoritalina.wordpress.com).

Then we set off with the Red Bull Volvo to do some projector bombing on the street – and this was really great fun!

The photos below were taken from our first stop – outside Kino OkO.

The gable end of this block of flats made a brilliant ‘canvas’ for drawing and the on-board sound system in the Red Bull car soon attracted a big crowd.

Our next stop was in Dlouha outside Roxy/Nod, a very popular club and gallery in the centre of Prague.

Despite the narrowness of the street and bright lighting Kuba managed to angle the projector to make a huge drawing area for me on the front of the building next to the club. A big crowd soon gathered on the street, with lots of people taking photos. My new, beautiful Tagtoool All-in-one performed perfectly and was ideal for working on the street! Dima set it up and dismantled it very quickly – and in between managed to take these photos as well.

Together we “are linked by the moving line of drawing itself “- Deanna Petheridge, The primacy of drawing (2010)

This work is ongoing and is as open-ended as a drawn line is long. This final improvised performance in this Masters project was designed from elements harvested as knowledge from the previous performances. This work introduces video projections as an inclusive device. The drawings will be embellished through the use of Tagtool, an electronic drawing device discovered during the Masters research project. A work of art that makes use of all or many art forms to create a complete artwork can be referred to by the term Gesamtkunstwerk. I review the notion of Gesamtkunstwerk in relation to this performance event.

Dima was so busy managing the equipment that he didn’t take many photos on the two evenings that we went projector bombing with the Red Bull car during the Lunchmeat Festival – but he was able to shoot some video on the first night when it wasn’t raining. It’s all a bit shaky and hand held but I think it captures really well the atmosphere of working with the Tagtool outside. The first clip is from the roof terrace session at DOX.

The two clips below were shot outside the cinema BIO OKO and the club/gallery Roxy/NOD in the centre of Prague. While I was drawing we had a DJ operating the sound system in the Red Bull car, but Dima has used these two tracks by Mihaly Vig, ‘Valuska’ and ‘Oskigyo’ for the videos.

The festival organisers are making an official video of the whole event, which should also include some footage of our Saturday night performance at the Meetfactory. When this comes out I will post a link on the blog.

As it was a real jam session I decided to make a sequence of both abstract and figurative images for this setting. Here are photos of the two musicians who provided the live accompaniment for my drawing.

It was the sound system in the Red Bull car that was used for music to accompany the street projections.

In order to cover the whole height of the building Kuba held the projector on its side – a great idea that worked really well – but drawing was much more difficult, as either I had to stand sideways or try remember that when I moved the pen up on the tablet, the line went down on the building and movement left showed up as movement right!

Unfortunately, on Thursday evening it was seriously wet – not the best weather for projector bombing!

I was the lucky one, cowering inside the van (although this proved to be not the most comfortable position for drawing!)

But despite the bad weather this was a great projection location.

As well as ‘drawing’ on the wall I was able to incorporate the statue in the niche into the pictures.

When we moved to the next location we parked the van next to the Red Bull car in the car park end-on to the wall. With the back door of the van raised to form a ‘roof’, a raincoat draped over the back of the Tagtool to give extra protection from the rain and the projector inside the van sitting on the tailgate, this was a much more comfortable drawing position for me.

The audience was not so lucky!

My projection area fell within one of the ‘loops’ of the permanent mural that covers this big wall and as there was a lot of ambient light at this location I chose not to use the transparency slider but instead concentrate on making big bold images in pure colours.

I ended the session with a bit of advertising for the remaining events of the festival!

It had been great fun, although we all went home very wet – and glad that our performance on Saturday at the Meetfactory would be indoors!

Taggert´s Tagtoolistats- The Tagtool appeared briefly as part of a series of performances – only the second time I have done this (the first being Digital Natives). I was a little apprehensive, wondering whether to go for an illustration (something which requires a little patience from your audience) or something more abstract and in the end I chose both.

Later on many people tried their hand and our portrait painting (where you trace over the features using the projector) was especially popular. I think I have a pretty good feel for it now and am looking forward to my next chance!
