A Few Possible Future Features?!

I’ve been working with TT now for about 6 years, and I love this app so much! I use TT in a maybe odd way, in that I almost never draw with it - I do image collaging, using jpgs and especially pngs. Over the years, I gathered a number of questions, and I’m finally getting around to posing/sharing them…

Here are a few features that I would love to see in TT, but of course know that I am not the one working the software

a) Ability to play music off the iPad while using TT - right now I have an iPod or other iPad playing music, and it’d be nice to be able to use just one device

b) Ability to insert more than 1 image at a time from the Photos app - being an image collagist, I often use hundreds of images in one event design with TT. Being able to select several images at a time would save me a lot of time, scrolling through the Photos app

c) Ability to have some number of different drawing “brushes”. I feel that the single style of painting “brush” limits the variety of artistic styles individuals might bring to their work

d) move the “Full Screen” button away from the “Delete” button!

e) a “shadow grid” - I wonder if there would be a way to create the image of a grid on the workspace that is only visible within the app, not projected in the output? I have a work around where I paint little white dots just outside the corners of the workspace, and save that layer along with whatever content I have in the animation I’ve created, so that it’s easier to line up when I drag it out of the Decks bar on the right of the screen.

f) the Background feature doesn’t seem to be working for me anymore? I see it in TT, but it’s not getting projected. I currently use iPad Pro 4th gen, iPad Air 5th gen, and iPad 9th gen.

g) in the “Interface” tab, what does “UI” stand for on “UI External Display”?

h) what is “Start NDI Server”, and why would one choose to use it?

i) Is there any way to know for certain how much data (content/images/animations) can be input before TT crashes? Is there a way to get an alert as to when a crash is imminent, like the alert that says “Please reduce the number of layers”? For now I run through all my animations for whatever show or event I’m working on, and try to note at what point TT crashes, so I can plan accordingly, and space out the amount of content I input during a show/event.

I think that’s it!

TT has allowed me to work solely as an artist, giving up my supplemental food service job during the pandemic, and work solely in artistic jobs, and I am forever grateful for this affordable and wonderful tool!

Hey,

a) Ability to play music off the iPad while using TT - right now I have an iPod or other iPad playing music, and it’d be nice to be able to use just one device

Thx for bringing it up - we will have a look in the upcoming update.

b) Ability to insert more than 1 image at a time from the Photos app - being an image collagist, I often use hundreds of images in one event design with TT. Being able to select several images at a time would save me a lot of time, scrolling through the Photos app

That´s true importing a lot of images takes time. Unfortunately it´s not that easy in a multiplayer session when player start importing loads of megabytes at the same time. The session starts lagging and becomes unresponsive because of the transfer of data.

c) Ability to have some number of different drawing “brushes”. I feel that the single style of painting “brush” limits the variety of artistic styles individuals might bring to their work

Yes - that´s already on the list!

d) move the “Full Screen” button away from the “Delete” button!

Interesting! How often does it happen to you?

e) a “shadow grid” - I wonder if there would be a way to create the image of a grid on the workspace that is only visible within the app, not projected in the output? I have a work around where I paint little white dots just outside the corners of the workspace, and save that layer along with whatever content I have in the animation I’ve created, so that it’s easier to line up when I drag it out of the Decks bar on the right of the screen.

When you select a deck item - The “insert” button in the inspector panel puts the saved deck item on the same spot where you saved it. We use it a lot when the content needs to appear on the exact same spot where we created it.

f) the Background feature doesn’t seem to be working for me anymore? I see it in TT, but it’s not getting projected. I currently use iPad Pro 4th gen, iPad Air 5th gen, and iPad 9th gen.

Check if the “Transparency” is OFF in the capture menu. That should bring back the background color.

g) in the “Interface” tab, what does “UI” stand for on “UI External Display”?

UI stands for User Interface. This feature is incredibly helpful when demonstrating how Tagtool works during workshops. It allows you to show and explain your actions while adding visual feedback with blue circles that highlight each tap. This makes teaching much more effective, since connecting to an external display typically only shows the black workspace without any indication of your interactions.

h) what is “Start NDI Server”, and why would one choose to use it?

Network Device Interface (NDI) is a software specification developed by NewTek that enables high-definition video to be transmitted, received, and communicated over computer networks with low latency and exceptional quality. When this feature is enabled, other professional software applications such as Resolume, Modul8 or TouchDesigner can seamlessly access and utilize the video feed of the Tagtool App when they are in the same network.

i) Is there any way to know for certain how much data (content/images/animations) can be input before TT crashes? Is there a way to get an alert as to when a crash is imminent, like the alert that says “Please reduce the number of layers”? For now I run through all my animations for whatever show or event I’m working on, and try to note at what point TT crashes, so I can plan accordingly, and space out the amount of content I input during a show/event.

Unfortunately, this isn’t straightforward due to Apple’s App Store guidelines. Apple maintains strict policies regarding the display of “low memory” warnings to users, and apps that include such warnings are typically rejected during the review process.

We do include this information in our TestFlight builds and internal developer versions, but we’re unable to provide it in the official App Store release to ensure compliance with Apple’s requirements.

Thank you for the great feedback.
Very much appreciated and keep up the great work!

Thank you so much1!

Wow. The Insert button - THATS amazing!! Can’t believe I didn’t know what that was

For NDI….would this be good to use if I were sending TT to Madmapper via Syphon, or not related?

Delete/FullScreen buttons….yes, but maybe im tapping too fast and not being careful :roll_eyes::grimacing:. I saw one other person comment about this, but just the one:smiling_face:

Load/Crashing - fascinating. Sometimes Apple is great, sometimes Apple :poop::rofl:

Regarding decks and core footers…sometimes I’ll copy a deck via Airdrop, and the deck will appear, but none of the content. If I copy just the individual animations into an existing deck, like My Devk, they show up. I’ll look into those problematic decks and see if something’s missing..

Thanks again!!

NDI works across networks between devices; Syphon only works locally between apps on the same Mac. Syphon has lower latency for local sharing; NDI has higher latency due to network transmission.
Both are valuable tools, but they solve different problems in video workflows.
