Hello,
We have a new public beta of Tagtool 1.5.0 ready for testing!
Thanks for your feedback on the last beta — we fixed all the issues that were reported and even implemented a few improvements on top of that.
Highlights:
-
pencil mode — palm rejection for those working with Apple Pencil
-
significantly faster deck loading and content transfer in multiplayer sessions
-
more stable online multiplayer sessions with 3+ participants
-
improved external display on macOS and Windows
-
HEIC images from the camera roll now load correctly
-
iOS background music continues playing while Tagtool is running
-
fixed crash on older iPads
The iPad beta is available via Apple TestFlight. If you joined the previous beta, TestFlight will notify you automatically when this build is available. New testers can still join via the same TestFlight link as before: https://testflight.apple.com/join/T1vEQath
Mac and Windows builds can be downloaded here: https://downloads.tagtool.org/beta/Tagtool-Beta_v1.5.0-b30
The Mac build is now also properly notarized by Apple, so it can be installed without any security warnings.
Please let us know how it’s working for you — your feedback is what makes these releases better!
Happy Tagtooling, The OMAi crew
What’s new in detail
Pencil Mode
There’s a new toggle in the User Interface settings menu. When on, only the Apple Pencil draws — finger touches scroll/zoom and operate the UI but never paint.
Faster Deck Loading and Transfer
Decks now share storage between identical layers and images, so duplicating content no longer multiplies file size. Deck loading also got significantly faster due to caching. Try loading your largest deck items — what used to take many seconds should now feel instant!
Online Multiplayer Improvements
The same optimizations from deck loading have been applied to multiplayer scene sync, so massive deck items are transferred much faster. Network menu scrolls smoothly with 5+ participants.
Older iPad Support
iPad Pro 1st generation (2015 / A9X) and 2nd generation (2017 / A10X) no longer crash on launch.
External Display (iPad)
Reorganized Output menu so you can choose if you want to show the canvas, or the UI with touch markers (“teaching mode”).
External Display (macOS and Windows)
Live hotplug detection — connect or disconnect a monitor at any time and Tagtool reacts immediately. Picker now shows the OS-assigned display number plus native resolution, matching what your system Settings shows. Display selection persists across app restarts by the monitor’s hardware identity, so your pinned display follows the cable instead of the slot.
HEIC Images
Photos taken on recent iPhones / iPads (HEIC format) now import correctly from the camera roll.
iOS Background Music
Music from another app keeps playing while Tagtool is running.
