Tagtool crashes as soon as I go a little bit wild

Hi everyone,

I’m currently using an iPad Pro 12.9" (2018, 512GB) and experiencing frequent crashes when working with Tagtool. It happens especially when I’m working with lots of animations, lines, transparencies, etc.

If I go slower and keep things simpler, it works fine, but that’s not ideal for my workflow.

Do you think upgrading to an M1 ipad Pro would resolve these issues? Is this the only way to go?
Can I do something so the current iPad don’t crash so often?

I’d appreciate any advice or insights!

Thanks in advance!

Hello,

If you’re working on newer M1 / M2 models, you have a decent amount of more power to work with compared to your 2018 model, but the complexity of realtime drawing and animations in Tagtool can still strain even the more powerful devices when you push them (especially when you connect an external display at the same time).

When you have important shows I would recommend using Tagtool Desktop for PC/MAC as a server connected to the projector - so when the iPad crashes you are not losing your content and can reconnect.

Yours,
Mat

I use a lot of pngs in my animations, and one strategy I’ve developed is to add and delete elements in batches. Most of the time, the audience would never know that I’m doing this. Also, sometimes TT will freeze when I’m doing a lot of fast back and forth on changing background color, so I try to just pause once in a while, which seems to help.
